After years of dealing with, and cursing at, the cheap plastic boxes that take three hands to rewind, I decided to splurge on a more substantial product. This is it. Solid, heavy duty metal that doesn't move around when you unwind or rewind the hose. The cranking mechanism is smooth. The connections are metal and so far leak-proof. There was really not much to assemble - just attach the hand crank and hose to the reel and you're good to go. This model doesn't have wheels, so look elsewhere if you want to roll it around the yard. This is meant to stay in place, and it does. A word about customer service. The box is held together with 20 or so machine screws. One was missing on my unit. I doubt it would have caused any problems to just leave it, but for 200 bucks I wanted no compromises, but neither did I want to box up the whole thing and return it. Rather than go through the time and expense to mail me a single screw, they gave me the size specs and offered a $10 refund for my trouble. Deal! A quick trip to the hardware store, 2 minutes with a screwdriver, and I was in business. I came out about $8.50 ahead and have a bunch of of extra screws for the tool box. This is a very good quality and sturdy hose reel. It easily accommodated my 100' hose with plenty of room to spare. It is heavy, but it needs the heft so that it stays put when I pull/unroll the hose. It has one achilles heel though. The winding mechanism is made of plastic. After using it regularly for little over a month, the hose guide had trouble switching directions; made a clicking noise and reversed direction way early - basically it won't wind evenly. What I noticed is that, at least on my unit when the plastic guide reaches the right side, it seems to seize on to the steel guides. For now I resolved the problem by putting on gobs of silicone grease - on the steel guides as well as the plastic threads. Works well, at least for now. Also, I try to slightly guide the hose if it is trying to pull in from a side. Not sure how long the mechanism will hold up under regular use. ... show more

Bought this product on Black Friday. I chose this sturdy metal product over the flimsy plastic products offered by their competition. When the product arrived, I noticed it was defective across the top. The metal was bent outwards which prevented the top from closing fully. I guess their quality control just missed it. I was now dreading the thought of having to repackage this heavy item and sending it back. I emailed their customer service department of the defective product on a Friday along with a picture. Within 36 hours by Sunday night, I was informed a replacement would be sent to me. Several days later I got a tracking number and the package arrived at my door. The best part was that I could keep the defective unit without having to deal with the hassle of a typical return. The unit itself performed as expected. The metal parts make it feel durable and the heavier weight helps keep the unit in place as I drag the hose. No water leaks thus far. It was definitely worth the higher price to buy a superior product and have such superior customer service. ... show more

    • Giraffe Tools Hose Container: Defective Junk and Shameful Warranty Service

Let me start by saying that my experience with Giraffe Tools hose container has been nothing short of a nightmare. From the defective product to the abysmal warranty service, this company has managed to disappoint at every turn. Upon receiving the hose container, I was initially impressed by its design and promised functionality. However, my optimism quickly turned to frustration when I discovered that the unit was defective. The reel mechanism was jammed, rendering the entire container useless. The belt would fall off the spline while rotating, the spline wasn’t fastened to shaft. In my attempt to resolve the issue, I reached out to Giraffe Tools customer service. After explaining the problem and providing a video showcasing the malfunction, their response was shockingly inadequate. Instead of acknowledging the defect and offering a prompt solution, they suggested sending me a replacement belt. A replacement belt for a jammed reel? Are they serious? When I insisted that a belt would not fix the underlying issue, they backtracked and said they would need to send a screw from China for me to fix it myself. Yes, you read that right. They expected me to wait for an international shipment of a single screw to repair their shoddy product and do a tear down of the unit. Frustrated by their incompetence, I turned to Amazon for assistance. To my relief, Amazon promptly resolved the issue and provided me with a satisfactory solution. Their customer service was efficient, understanding, and focused on resolving the problem, unlike Giraffe Tools. What's even more disappointing is that Giraffe Tools boasts a two-year warranty for their products. However, when it came time to honor that warranty and replace the defective unit, they failed miserably. A warranty is only as good as the company's willingness to stand behind its products, and Giraffe Tools fell short in this regard. In conclusion, I cannot in good conscience recommend Giraffe Tools hose container or any of their products.Their lackluster quality control, dismissive customer service, and failure to honor warranty commitments are clear indicators of a company that prioritizes profits over customer satisfaction. First one came in and the plastic fittings on the sides were both broken. Got the 2nd one and the lid was missing the screws and had fallen down into the box. It's very heavy and seems to be well made but not put together well. It still has vulnerable plastic pieces that can be easily broken. It claims to be able to hold much more hose than what it actually holds. I had to take out one of the hoses to be able to get it to fit in the box. Very disappointed considering how much it cost. I'd return this 2nd one but it's too much trouble. I wouldn't recommend and wouldn't buy again. ... show more
