Just so happens I’m building a farm house and a sink like this has always been on my radar. Because it’s new construction, I have the option of installing it anyway I want. The manual “recommends” an under the counter type of mounting for this sink, yet the top lip of my sink is rounded, not flat and it’s relatively narrow, which to my way of thinking would make it less than ideal to accept adhesive/sealant. A flat edge would allow for better adhesion (more surface area), to the underside of the counter. I think you do want to adhere it, because you do not want any movement of the sink, especially if it’s made of ceramic, fire clay or any other material, remotely susceptible to cracking due to movement - however slight. You also want to form a water tight seal between the counter and the sink. With the top edge of this sink being so nicely rounded, it seems to me it’d be perfect for a built-up type of installation, revealing that pretty edge. The main support for this sink is the structure they require you to build underneath the body of the sink. It is not to be supported by adhesive alone. The adhesive is more for restricting lateral movement in this case. Fire clay sinks are considered to be harder and more durable than standard ceramic sinks also making them really heavy. This one is quite heavy (83lbs?) and I needed another person to help lift it in place. The box is huge. It was brought to the house using a hand truck - (nobody wants to lift this thing). The sink was encased in styrofoam inside the box (photo) and although the foam had a crack, the sink did not. It was packed really well. I’m pleased with the high quality of this sink and do hope that it lives up to its reputation for durability. ... show more
