I didn't realize how little one quart was!! Thank goodness I bought two bags!! I wanted to plant my seedlings - I have about 50 little plants!! I was only able to plant 5 little pots of cauliflower and 5 little pots of cabbage. I went back to Amazon and ordered Espoma Organic Seed Starter - 16 quarts for $21.49 (including tax!). This seed-starting soil is rich in color and is loose, fluffy and light. It was neither too wet nor too dry when it arrived; it was ready to go straight out of the bag into my little seed-starter six-pack pots (also from Amazon). I can tell this soil has peat moss in it, and of course it is easy to see the pearlite and vermiculite. All three of these ingredients indicate a quality seed-starting soil, based on my past experience. My portulaca seeds sprouted in it nicely and seem happy. I'll let them stay put to grow a bit bigger before transplanting, since they are growing well in this soil. I feel bad about the reviewer who found dead bugs in their soil -- mine arrived in nice condition and I have seen no unfavorable ingredients like dead bugs or anything else unwanted. I do wish the package stated something about the soil being organic, but even with that, there's really no way to know for sure, especially coming from China. It also might be nice if the bag was bigger and contained more soil, but this is plenty for starting a good number of seeds in my little seed-starter compartment pots. I purchased some seed-starter mix at my local home center that came in a larger bag and cost less, but it is not marked organic, either, and perhaps this soil really is organic. Also, this soil was delivered right to my door. I didn't have to drive out anywhere and pick it up, and that convenience is certainly worth something. I like that the bag has a ziplock top for storing leftovers. Overall, this is a small quantity of soil and it comes from China, which some may not prefer. But so far it is working well for my portulaca seeds, which sprouted nicely and are growing happily. Based on the small amount, I'd recommend it for people using mini seed-starter packs as opposed to larger pots or using it in their in-ground garden. ... show more
