I just assembled my sand scoop. I was surprised by how heavy and sturdy it was. I was concerned that the handle being in 3 pieces meant that it wouldn't be that strong, but it seems to be. There were tubes a little smaller in diameter than the stainless handle that went inside the joint between the parts that seem to make the joint very strong. Heading to the beach next week to try it out. I will update if it doesn't live up to my expectations when I put it to the test. ... show more

Good solid metal. Seems sturdy. But, connector inserts to attach the handle pieces only allow 2/3 of the connecting screws to line up in each row. Four rows of three holes - the inserts in each row only line up with two of the holes. Otherwise it seems great.

I ordered this new kit because my current hand-only scoop, does not have a way to attach any handle. Unfortunately, I now have a spine that is crumbling and it is now almost impossible for me to get down and then get back up again. (BUT, for a Gold coin, I might just manage that It'd be worth the pain! LOL!) This great steel handle will also allow me to push myself back up, too. This scoop package was somewhat pricey. For me, it was worth it for the reasons mentioned above. However, you do get a top quality stainless-steel scoop, a great honey-comb-holed design scoop and, a sturdy steel handle to make the day less fatiguing. The tiny fly in the ointment, is that some of the welds, though totally functional, look a bit rough in places – which is a real shame, as that is about the only thing that really spoils this great set-up. Also, with the handle attached, the compromise is, that this is a little weightier than I was used to. Overall, I am impressed and look forward to using this as soon as I can plan my next trip.
