  • Crowley Dansette vs Electrohome Signature
I bought this, the Electrohome Signature, and the Jensen JTA all for Christmas gifts so I have all three at the same time. I've not tried the Jensen yet, but have tried both the Crosley and Electrohome. Both came in a pretty banged up box during shipping prior to someone putting it in the Amazon box. A little worried about that, but both worked fine. I did a lot of reading and almost got scared off by the ratings. Don't be. These both worked great and I'm so pleased. If you want to see my thoughts on both read more below. -LOOKS: Both look great IMO. Pictures don't do them justice. The Electrohome was much more sturdy as it's solid wood and heavy, but I was very pleased with the Crosley. The material on the outer casing looked to be put together quite well. A plus for the Crosley is that it comes with legs if you don't have a shelf to put it on. I really think this is a toss up. Just depends on your personal taste. Really, both look GREAT! -SOUND: The Electrohome wins here. The sound is much deeper than the Crosley. However, the Crosley wasn't as bad as I was expecting based on some of the reviews. Both turned up in the room over are loud enough for me to wash dishes and jam to Thriller with no problem. The Crosley has that old 50's feel/sound to it while the Electrohome is more of that 70's feel/sound. If you're worried about the Crosley sound don't be. You'll be fine it's just the Electrohome is better. -HEAD ARM/NEEDLE: I had to put this as it's a pretty distinct difference. The Crosley has a better arm for sure. Heavier and set the needle on and no skipping at all. The Electrohome skipped a lot at first. Minor weight adjustment and it's fine now. However the Electrohome has the ability to auto set the needle and auto return at the end of the record. The Crosley is straight ol' school...all manual with needle placement. -EXTRAS: The Electrohome wins here as well. The Crosley is as basic as it gets. Put the record on and there you have it. The Electrohome has a CD player, Radio, Aux input, and ability to record from record to MP3. One major absence from the Crosley is the ability to have it lift and drop the needle. -OVERALL: I'm SOOOO pleased with both of these. My worries from the reviews didn't come up at all. I'm not new to records so it's not that I've just discovered these. Now, as for my 11year old, she's amazed at this thing called a record. I gave the Electrohome a 4 star rating for shipping and the needle arm and although this has fewer features I gave it a 5 star. ... show more

  • Does the job, but still not a great employee
Style: Bluetooth Color: Tourmaline
Bought this item a few months ago as a birthday gift. I added the legs, and that was a smooth process. It plays the discs just fine. The sound could be ALOT better. But you get what you pay for. I have noticed that the needle on the arm has been scratching the records as well. But like I said you get what you pay for. After only 6 months or so, when picking up the player and moving it to a new place in the house, the legs literally just fell out. The material could not hold them in unless it was under the weight of the machine I guess. But the area that the legs were screwed into has been slowly disintegrating. Whole pieces just fall out, I cannot put the legs back in either. Just very disappointed. I’m saving to buy a new one now. ☹️ ... show more

  • It Is What It Is...
...and the reason I say that to set the expectation level because I really wanted this to work. I have a turntable in my basement, but when my wife renovated our den, she suggested I look for a portable/all-in-one record player for that room. After doing some research, reading reviews and discussing at my local record store I decided to take a chance with this model (even though I should've used my better judgement because everything I came across was steering me away from any Crosley record player). Here are some things to note: In terms of aesthetics: - The record player itself has a cool mid-century modern look to it, but it's pretty large. - The legs are detachable, and screw into the bottom if you want. I did not intend to set it up on the legs, and it kind of felt like there was a microwave on our credenza. - The lid will stay in that upright position, as shown in the graphic (I had read where some others models did not). In regards to production/quality: - It's still comprised of cheap plastic, for the most part. - The platter wasn't quite 12" in diameter, but was large enough to support a 12" record so that it did not appear to wobble. - There is no counterweight to balance the tone arm. I probably would've cringed if I had given my copy of Abbey Road a spin. - The sound was OK. Again, I knew what I was getting myself into, so I wasn't expecting to be blown away. I will say that when I plugged some basic computer speakers into the headphone jack it sounded MUCH better. Conclusion: I returned it. One thing to note is that there was no free shipping on the return--even though I bought it via Amazon Prime--so I was out about $18 to send it back. If you're not too concerned with great sound or potential damage to your vinyl, and just want something that plays records and might make a cool accent piece in your room--this could be for you. I know Crosley is trying hard to change their reputation and make better products, but I don't think they're just quite there yet. ... show more
