  • So far so good
First off, I would like to point out it does fit 6 chicken eggs, you have to lay them at a slant, and the automatic egg turner works beautifully. The last incubator I bought from the same company you had to turn them manually, and I don’t have time for that. Someone had mentioned the screws were rusty, but the only screws I found were above where you put the water, so if it doesn’t get overfilled in the designated reservoir that shouldn’t happen. Another reviewer mentioned that if you fill the water all the way big water droplets form on the window, and that means there’s too much humidity, so I’m going to be only filling when the water is low, not to the top every day. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because you have to open the lid and move one egg to see where you add water. Once we are on lockdown they want you to open and spray the eggs with the spritzer included after taking the rollers out and putting the small netting down, but I feel like that would shrink wrap the chicks. Only time will tell! I will update this review with pictures and success rate. Obviously you have to take into account if your eggs are fertile or if they are damaged, the success rate depends on that as well, not just the machine. For a small egg hatching project, this is the perfect little incubator and a great price. ... show more

  • Low hatch rate
I used this incubator in my classroom so the students could experience the hatch. I placed 6 bantam eggs inside and 1 normal sized egg. I candled on day 7 and 14 and could see viability in all the eggs. On day 21 only 1 had hatched on day 22 a second hatched but that one really struggled and hatched with a few issues. As I researched I read it was likely from inconsistent temperature in the incubator. I did notice that it was difficult to keep the temperature steady so I placed a small plastic container over the incubator on Day 10. This increased tor humidity and helped the temperature stay more steady. And I didn’t bother it again until I candled them again at lock down. I’m not sure what went wrong but i successfully hatched 17 eggs from that same batch in 3 other separate incubators from a set of 24 which is a pretty high hatch rate. I will keep it but only use it for extra eggs that I don’t need chicks from…and so my students can watch the pieces again. ... show more

  • Perfect for quail eggs
I was able to hatch 8 out of 8 fertile quail eggs with this incubator. I got this incubator because it was simply one of the cheapest ones that had fair ratings, and for that reason I did not expect much. But I was pleasantly surprised with the success rate and how easy it was to use. Automatic turning worked perfectly with 8 quail eggs. You just need to add sticks to make the gap between the turners narrower. It turns eggs every 2 hours, and you can also turn them more often by pressing the "+" button. I pressed the "+" button whenever I walked by the incubator, and I think our eggs got turned every 30 min or so during the day. That may have been a contributing factor to the success (?). It has no humidity control, so I simply followed the instruction. I added water to the side every day until lock down, and after that I sprayed water onto the eggs for additional humidity. I was worried that it was too humid than ideal but it worked. The quail eggs came from my own breeding pair and they were 1-8 days old when I started incubation. There was no risk of damage from shipping. Overall, I think this is a perfect incubator for a hobbist quail keeper like me, who wants to incubate a small batch of fertile eggs every once in a while. Edit: For my second incubation, I placed a small hygrometer inside along with quail eggs. The humidity was 30-40% when it was dry, and adding one small squirt of water increased humidity to 80-70%, which eventually dropped to ideal humidity of 50-60% after a few hours. I learned from my second incubation that I was adding way too much water into this during my first one, filling up the water reservoir part every day. The humidity must have been 80-99% constantly. My success rate was high for both incubations (100%), but for those who want to play it safe but not want to buy a small hygrometer, one way to tell the humidity being at ideal level is to make sure the clear lid fogs up, which happens when humidity is 50-70%, but not with lots of water drops, which happens when humidity is above around 90%. Higher than ideal humidity does not seem to kill fetuses inside the eggs according to my success rate from the first incubation though. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Is work good up until day 18 where the chicks had to go into lock down and when they went into lock down sense the place to add water is in the inside I couldn’t and when they were ready to hatch they got shrink wrapped anothor thing in that two of the screws were rusting I ended up with a 49% hatch rate 3 out 5 two due to humidity the other 3 I had to help out a little ... show more

Keep the styrofoam it’s part of the equipment not just the packing

  • Meh. 2 out of 20 eggs so far
Bought this because I wanted an incubator that didnt take up as much space as my little giant for only a few eggs at a time. I kept the styrofoam that it was shipped in on it to help insulate it better (personal choice, but it does help) the humidity strip has to be filled every day, and the humidity cannot be easily increased right before hatching. The rollers to turn the eggs do not stay under the eggs properly (at least not quail eggs) I had to fix the rollers at least every other day and get the eggs off the incubator "floor" ... show more
