Description

Celestron has reinvented the manual telescope with StarSense Explorer—the first telescope that uses your smartphone to analyze the night sky and calculate its position in real time. StarSense Explorer is ideal for beginners thanks to the app’s user-friendly interface and detailed tutorials. It’s like having your own personal tour guide of the night sky. Dock, Launch, Explore Leave complicated star charts, imprecise planetarium apps, and computerized mounts behind. With StarSense Explorer, locating objects has never been easier, faster, or more accurate. Within minutes of setting up the telescope, you’ll be navigating the sky with confidence. Simply place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. After aligning your phone to the telescope’s optics (a quick, 2-minute procedure), StarSense Explorer generates a list of celestial objects currently visible. Make your selection and arrows appear onscreen, guiding you as you to move the telescope. When the object is ready to view, the bullseye turns green. Smartphone Compatibility StarSense Explorer works with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and up and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016. StarSense Sky Recognition Technology StarSense Explorer uses technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed in the night sky. A Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA), like the ones satellites use in orbit to correctly orient themselves, helps the app match star patterns it detects overhead to its internal database. While other astronomy apps may claim that they can help you find objects, they rely exclusively on the phone’s gyros and accelerometers, which aren’t as accurate as LISA technology. No other app can accurately tell you when your target is visible in the eyepiece.

  • Great first telescope, we were viewing the moon within 20 min of opening the box
We chose this as our first telescope. A major factor was to view the eclipse on April 8th, from Waco, TX (we have people from across the country joining us). The "Eclipsesafe Lense" was available for $20. I watched a pair of reviews, and the Setup guide from Celestron, and had no issues assembling, setting up, and using all the features of this telescope. Within 20 minutes, I had the app, and red dot aligned, and viewing the moon with my family. It was a great first experience, and we are looking forward to many stary nights, and joining our local Astronomical Society. For $200 delivered to my door, including the eclipse filter, the cost of entry was cheap. We hope to upgrade in a couple years, and give this to a friend, and draw them into the hobby. ... show more

  • Delivered early! Thats a great plus!!! 😊
Delivered yesterday which is 5days early than expected!!!! Yeheyyy thanks celestron! Gotta do a review once i start checking this telescope out! Cant do at this time since we have a very unhealthy air quality and smoky, ashes falling... update soon! Once we get clear sky and healthy air! 🙂🤞👍 I forgot i never get the time to update my review. Very disappointed with this scope. The app doesnt work and alignment is terrible. I agree with the reviews here it's a waste of money. Glad i have my Gosky spotting scope and able to see jupiter with its moons (4) and saturn. But with this celestron, its a waste so don't buy and safe your money fro something else. My celestron after atleast 4 tries of taking it out to check the night sky has been sitting here in the corner of the room ever since. ... show more

  • Great telescope, but slippery locks
It was very easy to assemble and use. the app that it comes with works pretty well but I did have an issue with the cameras on my iphone 13 max not lining up with the phone mount so i have to use an old phone but it still works. The other biggest problem ive found is the locks slipping when trying to line something up, ive found i need to line the star up below my FOV just for it to fall back down into place when I engage the lock. Im not sure how common this is with telescopes as this is my first one ive owned and have only ever used the ones at my school. Overall im happy with the purchase but will likely need to look into a new solution for the mount and tripod part. ... show more

  • StarSense is a great tool
Bought a used unit because all I wanted was the StarSense mount. Looked new to me. Anyway the StarSense can be put on any telescope and works great using 3 rubberized magnets to hold it in place. The ota and tripod will either get donated to an astronomy club or thrown away. StarSense is a great tool for newbies trying to find their way around the sky or those without a goto mount. ... show more

  • The App does not work.
I had no experience with astronomy, but thought I would try this because the app seemed like it will really help the novice user. First the unlock code for the Starsense app that came with telescope wasn't valid. It took a few days of back and forth emails with IT to get a valid code. The quality of telescope is okay, however calibrating the red dot in the finder scope was not easy at all, as the screws to adjust it are plastic and cheap and despite my best efforts it just would not align properly. The movement of the dot was not consistent due to the cheap threads on the elevation and lateral adjustments for the red dot. Also, you really need to tighten the thumb screws down super tight where the finder scope mounts to the telescope. On mine they kept coming loose and it would go out of calibration. The last straw really was once I finally got a valid code for star sense app, torqued down the the finder scope, I was ready to view the night sky! Well the app never was able to find the telescope and kept giving me an error. I was really patient with this hole process, but I tried it several times and it just would not work. In the end I returned the whole thing. I'll guess I'll wait to develop a new hobby till I can afford a cope with its own software and motorized for finding objects. The other thing here I learned is this scope isn't very powerful and is best served only looking at planets and the moon. But I don't know for sure because mine never worked. ... show more

  • I think this telescope is good
The telescope was good seeing the moon, but I had trouble trying to see Jupiter. If I would try to look, I would only see the outlines of the mirror. Otherwise, it’s a pretty good telescope. I would recommend it if you love watching the moon it’s very good for that but the app is very bad at its job for me it didn’t work I’m not gonna said anybody else, but it didn’t work I was was trying to get my telescope to see the moon it’s hard and the only thing that help me was the light white coming from the moon and Jupiter was hard to but otherwise I would recommend it for your first telescope. Just get it at a good price. ... show more

  • Very happy as I look to the stars
1. Assembly - Zero issue assembling the unit. The instructions are quite clear. 2. Usage - Being able to use your cell phone as a marker to help find stuff really is quite fun. I will admit that it's not always right on using this method, but the fact it helps me find something I want to see is fantastic for a beginner like me. The laser on the side is phenomenal for sighting in objects whether it be a star in the sky or a stop sign a mile away (for aligning). I have been very happy with this purchase. 3. Value - Well worth it. Feels good, looks good, works great. ... show more
