  • Great scope if you have room for it and good place to use it.
Have used this a few times, but have not gotten to a good dark sky place yet. The scope is on the big side, so it could definitely use two people to carry it, the base and any accessories you have (that or make a few trips). The base was easy to build and feels pretty sturdy. I have used the Star Sense app 1 time and like it very much. I just needed to get use to moving the scope to general area of the target and then waiting a few seconds for it verify the location to fine tune the view. I collimated the scope after my first use and then after a few trips in the car and it had shifted a little and needed recalibration. I bought a laser collimator, and it makes the process very simple and fast, so it will not be an issue to calibrate frequently to make sure the view is as good as possible. Wish it came with a 2nd eye piece, about a 5-6 mm eyepiece to give a good high-power view. I have an adjustable eyepiece that works well, but only goes up to 133X, not enough for the planets. If you want to do casual astronomy, get a smaller scope to save space and make it very portable. If you want to do some real deep sky gazing and not waste time finding the objects, this is the choice for you. ... show more

  • Works well and easy to use
I like how easy the collimation is to do and the views of the planets are fantastic

  • Arrived dirty. Very disappointing.
The product arrived with a large piece of debris on the mirror. Tube came from the factory with lint on the mirror. Unacceptable for the price.

  • Survived a 60mph fall off my truck!
First the bad, the app isn't compatible with modern Androids (I use a Pixel 7 Pro). Of course they prioritized the sheeple's choice of phone. I did use a friends iPhone to try the app out, and it works very well. This telescope is build REALLY well. There was a shifting of things in my truck bed while driving 60mph, and the scope caught wind and went flying out of my truck. In my rearview mirror I watched it tumble end-over-end and then come to a sliding halt on the highway. I was convinced it would be broken, but thanks to the really good packaging used, and how well the scope is made, there's no difference in the scope from before the accident. I couldn't believe it! Anyways, this telescope is the best, if you're like me and have been waiting for a good dob to buy as your entry to the hobby of staring at the sky through lenses and mirrors. Beware of the draw to buy junk x2 or x3 chinese barlow lenses, the x3 is just too much and isn't enjoyable. Honestly, the 25mm Plössl eyepiece that comes with it provides a great view. My suggestion is to focus on the higher quality, and more expensive, eyepieces. Although, I did pick up the 7-21mm SVBONY SV135 Zoom Eyepiece, and it's not as bad as the cheap barlows. ... show more

  • Amazing telescope for beginners
Very easy to calibrate and use, only bad part is the app, and the difficulty to see nebulae and galaxy’s. I do think you should buy a light pollution filter in order to see them more clearly.

  • For a novice this is outstanding. Even intermediate this is good.
So I have been looking for a new Dobsonian for a while. Either 10 to 12 inch. This one as a just the telescope is really good. I have had it for a month at the time of this writing. I had it fully assembled in an hour, hour and a half. Setting up for observation is very easy. This is a bit heavy but it is a 10 inch, so it will be. It has handles for easy pick up and short carry. It only comes with 1 single eyepiece, a 25 mm. It will get you started but you might be disappointed as just a novice going, well that's it? And be pretty underwhelmed. I highly recommend getting the Celestron – 1.25” Eyepiece and Filter Accessory Kit to go with this. With the eyepieces and filters in this kit you can see the rings of Saturn and polar ice caps on Mars. Also deep sky objects like nebula will appear. So the Scope itself is great in that regard. The Star sense software, honestly I have given up on it. never really got it to work. I get everything aligned and it says point to a patch of sky and it will figure out where it is. Never did for me. I even tried pointing it right at the big dipper and nope has no idea where it is. Sometimes the software glitches out and all I get on my phone is a white screen. I figure out how to solve it. Delete all the application data, which is a very large database. Then redownload it. However, then even though you must log in to the app you still have to enter your license code. Which, if this happens when your at a dark sky park or something your SOL. Again I never got it to work to find anything I did enjoy the explanations and so on of object in the night sky you can just use search feature in the app. So while the scope is very good. I wouldn't necessarily buy it for the Starsense software though. It comes with another software for your desktop or laptop. This software has a lot of potential but is very clunky. It really needs a lot of refinement to be useful. So in end, just to reiterate the scope, and the quality of the scope is great. I will honestly be using it for decades. It is a great 10 inch Dobsonian. You do need some lenses and filters. Which again, any telescope in this price range your going to need some better lenses, this is where they save money. The stand is great and actually built to last a while. The software, not the greatest. However, software can be updated and upgraded. It may get way better, or it may never improve again. Time will tell on that. To me though, I have just as much fun finding the objects up there. So just as a functional Dobsonian, It is great. ... show more

  • Awesome
We absolutely love this telescope. The pictures I’ve attached do not do it justice as they’re from my phone. We could see the Orion Nebula beautifully, the stripes and red dot on Jupiter, caps on mats, rings on Saturn… This is our first high-end telescope and we couldn’t recommend it more!

  • Celestron starsense explorer
The telescope itself works well, easy to assemble, gives sharp, clear images. The starsense app on the other hand is useless. It seems to be unable to plate solve and customer support is non-existent. I would have been much better off with a finder scope.
