Description

A slapshot by a professional hockey player was all it took to send this G-Shock into history and into a goalie’s mitt, literally. If it can handle a slapshot, it can handle your life. We like to refer to it as the quintessential G-Shock. The top left button is recessed for the purpose of avoiding the button from being accidentally pushed which could cause the time to be changed. This is a design element and not a flaw or defect. The simply designed Casio G-Shock Classic digital watch for men offers shock resistance that's great for your most vigorous sporting activities. The durable rectangular black watch case measures 45mm wide (1.77 inches), and it's matched to a comfortable black resin sports strap. It includes a stopwatch function that can measure events down to 1/100 of a second for the first 60 minutes (and down to 1 second from 60 minutes to 24 hours), and it offers elapsed and split time modes, and 1st-2nd place times. It also has a countdown timer with a 24-hour range. Other timekeeping features include a multi- function alarm, hourly time signal (which can be turned off), and 12/24-hour formats. This timepiece also features an Auto Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039), ±15-second accuracy per month, Afterglow backlighting, and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)--which will stand up to the rigors of recreational scuba diving. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); CasioWith the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward. See more

  • Casio DW-5600 is a reliable, affordable, and bomb-proof watch.
I’ve owned a Casio Men’s G-Shock DW5600 and its predecessor since the early 1970’s. The Casio DW-5600E that I am replacing is at least 15+ years old; and I’ve had to replace the battery and the watchband at least 3x’s. When I replaced the battery and the watchband last year, I decided that the next time they need to be replaced, I would buy a brand new DW-5600. Last week, the watchband broke so I bought a new DW-5600E-1V. The only difference that I could tell between my old DW-5600E and the new DW-5600E-1V is the country of origin. My old one was made in China. The new one is made in Thailand. Other than that, there is no obvious difference. I primarily use the Casio DW-5600E for swimming, kayaking, hiking, overseas traveling, etc. For traveling, it doesn’t attract too much attention (i.e., $$$ bling) and the functions are useful (e.g. alarm, stop watch). I like the Casio resin strap especially in wet and humid environments since it doesn’t irritate my skin. (NOTE: Always replace the Casio resin strap with an OEM Casio resin strap. Aftermarket non-Casio straps are too stiff, brittle, and uncomfortable; and will break). There is a solar powered version of this watch, but I prefer the battery one. The alarm, stop watch, and the backlight function will drain the battery quicker, but from my experience, the battery will last 5 years. (NOTE: When the backlight function does NOT illuminate or it is dim, that’s the cue or signal that the battery needs to be replaced.) I always replace the Casio DW-5600 battery at a watch repair shop since the battery replacement isn’t the easiest thing for me to do. It cost about US$10-15, but the watch repair shop will do a pressure check and replace the gasket if necessary. The watch repair shop will also check the freshness of the replacement battery before inserting. If I did NOT have an affordable local watch repair shop to do the battery replacement, I’d probably buy a solar powered version of this watch. The fact that Casio has kept the DW-5600 available for so many years without any design or function change is a testament to it popularity. I'd BUY IT AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN. ... show more

  • The OG
This is the quintessential G-Shock. No nonsense and super durable. If you just want to know the time, have alarm & timer functions, in a quartz watch that is really quite accurate then this is for you. In my experience this is accurate to about +/- 5 seconds per month. A great work watch if you are in a trade or an outdoor job. Also makes a great first watch for a kid if you don’t want to worry about your child breaking an expensive and unnecessary smart watch. Also great if you’re just looking for that retro-cool vibe. This doesn’t have the daily radio time sync or the solar battery, but it’s the perfect introduction into the world of G-Shock. ... show more

  • Not EL Back Light
As a couple others have pointed out, the photo is incorrect on this listing if it still shows the watch having EL Back Light. The models now shipping are GWM5610U's with LEDs. EL models are going for a premium now. Since this is a big deal in the Casio fan world (EL is cool), I reported the discrepancy to Amazon. It'll be interesting to see what happens. FWIW, the Casio website has the right photo but lists the watch as GMW5610-1 and cites LED in the features. ... show more

  • Good Solid Watch
This is my second G-Shock watch. The first one lasted for 10 years during my military service. I'm sure I'll get another 10+ years of performance from this one. It's a nicely made rugged watch that can withstand tough situations.

  • Best G Shock For The Best Price
This is a rock solid G-Shock: attractive square shaped design, has all the functions most people need, great backlight, great water resistance, great durability, very light weight and comfortable on the wrist. For the money, you definitely can't beat this G-Shock. In fact I prefer its size, shape, weight, and design to many more expensive G-Shock models. I am so happy with this model that I returned a $300 gold G Steel G-Shock (https://www.amazon.com/Casio-G-Shock-G-Steel-Watch/dp/B07BXCBFCD) and ordered a limited edition Smokey Sea version of the DW5600 instead. The G Steel is a good looking watch, but it's heavy, clunky, and the digital display is hard to read in dimmer lighting. The DW5600 is lightweight, easy to read in any lighting, and I don't feel like I'm going to hit it on things. It is simple and perfect. ... show more

  • The Only G-Shock You'll Ever Need
This G-Shock model is almost exactly like the original model released during 1983. The idea for G-Shock came about after Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe dropped a watch his father gave him that shattered on the ground. After this happened, Ibe undertook an effort to design a watch that would be able to withstand large impacts on rough surfaces and remain intact. The result is this timepiece that Kikuo Ibe wears to this day. My only gripe with this G-Shock are the recessed buttons, meaning you'll need to have enough fingernail to press them. If that bothers you, then I suggest checking out Casio's "Mission Impossible" watch, DW-290. It is almost as tough as a G-Shock and has a lot of this watch's features, but most of DW-290's buttons are not recessed. G-shocks (especially this model) are widely used in the military including among many police officers and even fire fighters. The people in these fields use G-Shocks (including this version) because the watches are not only affordable but able to withstand the demands of their jobs. That is proof enough this is a great, all-around, tough as nails, every day watch with enough basic features that can be used in a variety of instances. All in all, you won't get any better than this model G-Shock and I think it is the only one you'll really need. ... show more

  • MUST HAVE WATCH
Many years ago my father gave me the same model Casio G-Shock as this one. He'd worn it for years. I wore that watch for many more years until the plastic covering crumbled. Bought another one and the battery tuckered out after 5 or 6 years. Was lazy, so I purchased another new watch rather than replace the battery. I have a large watch collection (anybody want to buy a slightly used watch?). However, this is my go-to, wear everyday, takes-a-beating, get-it-wet (swim and snorkel), cut down trees, shoot my guns, can't-live-without-it watch. ... show more
