It really holds on to a pan. However, if the pan has a thick lip it will not lock. That said, it is sturdy and easy to hold on to. Very satisfied.

I bought a set that came with 2 handles and had to juggle too often when I was cooking something ambitious. This doesn't quite match the others but it's functionally identical. The price is so unreasonable that I took it out of my cart and it sat in Save For Later for months. Impulsively bought it when I needed to add something to get free same day shipping.
