  • Love this camera!
I bought this camera for its ease of convenience and the zoom feature. I am very satisfied. It is an easy point and shoot, but also has a few extra fun features available if you want to experiment a little more. I was amazed at what a difference the zoom makes - from seeing something off in the distance to being able to pull it in close for a wonderful picture. It is hard to see the screen in full sunlight, but this camera is everything I wanted. ... show more

  • Nice camera, but I still prefer the SX50
I purchased this to replace my SX50, which had developed a shutter release issue over the last year and thought it would cost more to replace than I wanted to invest. I used the camera for several days and was a bit disappointed. It just wasn't my SX50, and I ended up sending this one back and getting the SX50 repaired. (Canon didn't have the parts to repair it so they sent a replacement, for the standard repair fee of $96.30, plus my cost of $11.50 to ship it to them.) What did I like and not like, as compared to the SX50, which I have always loved? PROS: - lightweight - 16mp sensor vs. 12mp (although I could detect no difference in quality of photos) - larger viewing screen (3 inches vs. 2.8 inches) - ability to take panoramic photos (although I never tried it) - WiFi technology - lots of special effects settings CONS: - doesn't have the rotating flip viewing screen that the SX50 does - when you set the camera at a specific setting such as Macro, it stays at that setting even when you turn the camera off. With the SX50, it goes back to default when you next turn the camera on. I found it annoying when I'd last used Macro and then turned the camera on and didn't notice it was still on Macro and went to take a shot and had to reset it. There were a couple missed shots because of this. - adjusting the exposure is via a dial on top instead of all in the round multi-function button on the back. I would likely have gotten used to this, but it's so much easier when it's all in one spot. - no viewfinder - for RAW users (I have not used it often on my SX50), it doesn't have this capability - it didn't indicate a low battery until it was nearly dead, which was a big difference compared to the SX50, which was always good for quite a few more photos until it shut down. Also, the battery life is much shorter than that of the SX50. On a day of shooting 450-500 photos, I depleted three fully-charged batteries. The SX50 might need a change of battery and might not, under those same conditions. There are other differences, but these are the ones that mattered most to me. All in all, I prefer the SX50 and actually felt like the SX50 produced slightly better images. ... show more

  • Just a basic Super Zoom camera here from Canon
I have a Canon SX-50 HS digital camera & been using it for about 4 years now & needed something newer now. I wanted at least a 50X optical zoom lens since my older Canon SX-50 HS camera has 50X optical zoom. So, I got this Canon SX-530 HS camera as its replacement. Basically it's just like the SX-520 HS with the exception of the Canon Processors used and the strength of the optical zoom, megapixels max and some features lacking on the newer Canon. The SX-520 has a 42X optical zoom and this SX-530 HS has a 50X optical zoom. I think this Canon is a step backwards compared to the older SX-50 HS because the SX-50 HS has the Canon Digic-5 processor & this Canon has a Digic-4+ processor, this camera lacks optical viewfinder [only a LCD viewfinder that cannot be twisted/swiveled around at all], & seems a bit more poorly designed compared to the SX-50 HS camera. Of course, this newer Canon is cheaper also...which is why it lacks some of those features found on the older and larger SX-50 HS. Photo qualities outdoors or indoors without flash is fair to good. Using flash indoors will improve the photos a bit for indoor photos. Low light photos are poor with this camera, indoors or outdoors. Video qualities is pretty good in daylight conditions for this camera. Overall, this camera is pretty easy to use and it has manual setting modes if you prefer it that way. The menu on this camera is typical Canon menu format.....very easy to navigate. Smaller CMOS sensor will make these photos come out just average, but using the manual or programmable modes may improve the photos a bit. Overall not a bad basic super-zoom digital cameras for those going on vacation or just for general photography. Not really for the serious photographer from what I have got out of this camera so far. It uses the same battery that powered the older Canon SX-510 HS & SX-530 HS also, battery life is so-so with this camera. There is a "Eco mode" on this camera which is meant to extend battery life somewhat. I have not tried it, so I cannot comment on the "Eco Mode" for this camera at this time. 3 of 5 stars I rate this camera due to a variety of reasons. It's most certainly better than the smaller point & shoots Canon has, but not quite as good as older Canon super zoom bridge cameras such as the SX-40 HS or SX-50 HS versions.....but well enough for general vacation or family photos. ... show more
