Description

The BAKFlip MX4 was the first matte-finished, hard folding cover to market, becoming America’s 1 Selling Hard Folding Cover in just a few years. Simply put, the MX4 just looks better than other covers. Its sleek no-profile appearance allows you to maintain the appearance of your truck, while enabling you to securely stow cargo in the bed. The MX4’s pioneering, textured matte- finish adds a premium look and feel while also protecting against UV damage, annoying finger print marks, and scratches. MX4 has everything you expect from a premium cover. The engineers at BAK Industries fine-tuned even the smallest elements of the cover, down to adding cab corner caps and rail-end cap, to extending a matte-finish throughout the cover’s side rails, clamps, and elevator bolts. The MX4’s integrated buckle system and automatic latching mechanism allows you to drive with the cover partially or fully opened without covering the 3rd brake light. For 100% bed access, simply unlock the cover from either side via its pull latches and fold the cover all the way up against the cab. From there, you can prop the cover in place by tightening two rods into the underside of the panel. This was my second Tonneau cover purchase, got a less expensive option for my old Nissan, but wasn't a huge fan of how it aged with some of the plastic bits and how it looked, but it did the trick. For my new truck, I decided to bite the bullet and get the Bakflip G2 after looking at a ton of options, both more and less expensive. It's a nice flush fit with the bed, and everything locks up tight. The rubber seals seem to do the trick so far after a car wash, and routing the drains was easy as my truck has tie down spots. all the hardware is well made and looks like it should hold up well. Also nice and easy to open from either side of the truck with a simple pull of the cable underneath. Install was straightforward, probably took 45 minutes or so including final adjustments and getting the small bits put on. And having almost full access to the bed without removing it was a major factor, as I've had to remove my tonneau cover before when getting loads of gravel or bark, this should be a much improved experience for useability. Given that it's a flush fit, I feel like it's a bit harder for someone to get into than the ones that sit on top. Could it still be broken into? Sure, anything can, but no real easy way to just pop it up casually. Spendy but worth it. ... show more

Love it! Seems pretty secure. Certainly can cut through it. I like how it sits flush on top. Very clean look. Simple install with 2 people. Probably pretty easy with 1 strong person.

I did a lot of research before settling on this cover. As with most things, you see people who had problems and people who have had none. Here are my overall observations. * I did get a little water infiltration after a hard rain, but haven't made any adjustments since I installed it, so the leak could be my fault. * Installation is pretty easy. I did it myself in a Ram 1500 crew cab with the 5'7" bed--no RamBox. It maybe took 30 minutes, some of which was spent watching a YouTube installation video. * It looks great. * I love that you can open and close the tailgate with the cover closed. * I've had it in the folded position, going 70mph on the interstate and it held up fine. Only a small bit pokes out from behind the cab of the truck to catch the wind. I will note, though, that had I not had the digital rear view mirror (there's a camera in my third brake light that projects to my mirror) I would not have been able to see through the back window with the cover folded upright. * The cover gets very hot in direct sunlight. I especially found this out during installation. Might want to park in the shade while installing. I can't speak to customer service, etc..., but will try to keep this review updated since this is a high-ticket item and people like me want to get all the information they can before committing. I wasn't sure how to rate the value for the money, but since few of these covers are cheap, it felt like I am getting a well-made product at a cost comparable to other brands. Follow up after several months of use. I've had it parked in and driven during some hard rains and had very minimal to no water infiltration. I will note that when it's parked outside at our house, it is on a slight incline, such that the tailgate is lower than the cab, so that could conceivably make it less likely for water to get into the bed area? It took me about an hour to install. It installed easy and is by far the best most secure and the most likely to be waterproof yet. Not to mention it looks great. I have a 2023 Ram with ram boxes. This is my sencond bakflip cover and probably not my last. Install was super easy. Took me a couple hours in the garage and the fit is excellent. In my opinion, it's one of the best looking covers on the market. First of all, I want to say that the problems that I had with the two covers sent to me had nothing to do with the seller or shipping. These covers looked good from a distance and are not hard to install, that's the only positives. Both the original cover and the replacement that I received were scratched. Both boxes contained tiny metal shards. These were likely the cause of the deep. noticeable scratches. See the pictures. Both covers also leaked, not at the fold, but at the interface of the frame and the aluminum sheeting. These are $950 covers. I expected better. OK, now let's assume that there were no scratches or leaks. For a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500, the cover does not extend far enough past the interface between the gate and the bed. This allows water to go freely into the bed and soak everything that is in the last 12-inches or so from the gate (see the pic). The new Dodge Ram owners who gave the cover a good review either sealed the gate with another product or they don't care about their stuff getting soaked. I did finally get a refund, but not after lifting covers on and off of my truck, destroying them and packaging, shipping one of the destroyed covers back to them and disposing of the other one. The purpose for going with the Backflip was to save my bad back by never having to remove the cover. I returned to the Solid Fold cover the I’ve been using for years (yes, I realize these are made by the same company). Lastly, the MX4 truck bed cover is rated for up to 400 lbs. of evenly distributed weight. Before I destroyed one of the covers, I wanted to see if it could hold my 250 lb. body. It could not, as it buckled under my weight. If you do get one of these that is not scratched, do not climb on it, sit on it or set anything on it because it will likely buckle, scratch or dent.
