🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The AMD 5800X3D CPU has been widely praised by users for its stellar gaming performance, with noticeable improvements in frame rates and smoothness, particularly in CPU-bound games. Reviewers who previously experienced games bottlenecking due to older CPUs report massive improvements with this model. However, it's important to note that the performance can heavily rely on the cooling system, as it tends to run hot.

Pros

  • 🎮 Incredible gaming performance, especially at high resolutions (1440p) and high refresh rates.
  • 🕹 Eliminates bottlenecking and stabilizes platform for a longer lifespan.
  • 💾 Excellent upgrade for older CPUs like the 2600, 3600XT, 5600 and 3700X for better performance.
  • 🔧 Easy to install and optimize with appropriate BIOS updates.

Cons

  • 🌡 The CPU tends to run hot, requiring an effective aftermarket cooling system.
  • ⛔ No included heatsink/fan assembly with the CPU.
  • 💸 Can be quite expensive without a sale, but most reviewers agree the performance justifies the cost.
  • 🧩 Requires a BIOS update prior to CPU installation if not using an AMD 5000 series CPU.

Should I Buy It?

If you're a gaming enthusiast looking to significantly boost your system's performance or remove a CPU bottleneck, the AMD 5800X3D is a compelling choice. However, one has to be prepared to invest in a decent cooling mechanism to deal with the CPU's potential heat issue. The absence of a heatsink/fan assembly also means additional costs may be incurred. Despite the costs, the exceptional performance makes it a highly recommended buy, particularly if you can purchase it on sale.

  • Best value CPU for GAMING of it's generation and well into the future.
Style: Processor Only
I upgraded from a 5600 to a 5800x3d and later bought an aftermarket CPU cooler to run lower temps during summer and for higher gaming performance. This upgrade was massive for me for gaming as that is my main focus and hobby on my desktop. With the AMD 5000x series drivers for my bios already installed this was plug-and-play for me. Gaming performance hit my target 144hz on my 1440p monitor in most games with reduced settings as framerate is my go-to in fast-paced games like FPS. I do occasionally reduce framerate in single-player games or games that are isometric to reduce gpu/cpu load and get more consistent frame-times when upping graphic settings. I would recommend this in most cases for the majority of gamers but this is still my preference. Performance is SMOOTH and I do mean buttery smooth for me. The change in the 1% lows was immediately felt by me, but take this with a grain of salt especially if you are less experienced with high framerates/stutters and not a major PC enthusiast. Most people will game at 1080p on lower refresh rates, but please try to take this CPU to at least 1440p 90-120hz for optimal experience. COOLER - I kept my wraith cooler from my older 5600 to start while I researched what cooler I wanted to go with but I did game on this cooler for over a month. The wraith cooler was more than sufficient in most scenarios but due to the summer heat, and more demanding games my CPU temps were going above 80C and causing my room to get hotter and some CPU throttling requiring more tampering with settings and research into curve optimization. Much of my room heat comes from my PC due to it being closed, but it is an older house, a lightly insulated wooden home, with 5 windows, along with a mini-fridge and a bathroom that seems to absorb heat from somewhere. This temp was not ideal for me due to my room often being above 80F and during the heatwaves and AC work done up to 88 or higher in my room. COOLER Pt 2 - To reduce my room heat and reduce CPU thermal throttling I purchased an aftermarket CPU cooler with 6 heat pipes. This dramatically reduced my CPU thermal throttling reducing my average temps by 10-20F which also reduced temps on my GPU. The cooler I bought was around 40-50 bucks so if you are interested that is more than enough to cool this CPU for its lifetime. Curve Optimizer(WARNING!! this may void your warrant) - When using a curve optimizer with this CPU you will see a sizeable increase in performance and thermal temps. You can use a no-update manual optimizer like PBO2 Tuner or research into making it always optimized with bios settings. Idle temps get the most benefit from this and second is when performing at medium-high load in my experience. Idle temps were 5-10F reduced and medium-high load temps were in a similar range and sometimes far better due to increased CPU performance as well. This CPU is an incredible value for anyone that is enthusiastic about gaming performance. Be aware that there is a newer generation of x3D cpus but the current dollar-to-dollar value for 7000x3d cpus is not close enough to consider for anyone that does not want a maxed-out expensive system. On sale, the 5800x3d CPU is an absolute NO-BRAINER for gaming, but please be aware you need to buy a cooler, and you may need a bios update PRIOR to installing your CPU if you do not already have an AMD 5000 series CPU. If the 7000x3d series goes on sale and you are building an entirely new system, you should be aware of RAM costs and Motherboard costs as well as this can be a dramatic price differential for cheaper system builds if you are not careful. ... show more

  • Extending the life of my AM4 PC.
Style: Processor Only
The processor is very fast in games and competitive in production which is the reason I bought this over it's 5700X3D little brother. This is meant to keep my current PC viable for 4-5 more years. I paired the processor with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin and it runs fairly cool. During regular gaming use I have seen 70 degrees and with Cinebench running multicore I've hit 77 centigrade. I upgraded from a Ryzen 7 3700X which was still solid but not going to last the duration. I am looking to maybe skip AM5 altogether, time will tell. If AM5 lasts like AM4 did, I'll likely build an AM5 machine somewhere down the road. My computer is mostly a toy. I do use it for production at times. This will win no compression tests or any other production benches, but it will game with the best of them. Will it go 4 more years? Maybe it will now? I'll game on it till it won't game anymore. ... show more

  • Amazing Performance
Style: Processor Only
My upgrade path: Ryzen 7 3700X > Ryzen 7 5700X > Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The 5800X3D is well worth the purchase. The 3D cache makes such a big difference in performance. I have this paired with the 3060 TI and I get over 150 frames in every game. Tarkov was my main game for a while and some areas of Customs I’m seeing 200+ frames. My GPU is now the bottleneck and I’ll be moving to the 4070 Super very soon. ... show more

  • Great Upgrade for gaming
Style: Processor Only
I upgraded from a Ryzen 1700 to this and it amazed me with how much better it performs. I always thought that my long load screens and random frame drops were because of an overheating SSD or HDD but I couldn't have been further off. I went from having a ~2 minute Fortnite load in screen where i would load in already parachuting into the map. To now loading in so fast that I was floating before the battle bus loaded in fully. The only bad thing I can say about it is that it runs HOT. I get about 50c-60c running Idle in my 71f room. When under full artificial load it's about 85c with a 280mm AIO Liquid Cooler. So if you plan on doing a lot of long sessions, or intense work loads i would highly recommend getting an AIO of at least 280mm-360mm ... show more

  • Holy Moly!! 5800x3d!
Style: Processor Only
After watching multiple benchmark videos for months, I've finally bought the 5800x3d as I did not want to spend more money to upgrade to am5 for a little bit more performance. Figured why not get the fastest gaming chip for the Am4 platform and boy it is a treat! Upgrading from a R5 3600, and maaan this thing blows it out of the water, even on stock settings! Once I've undervolted and tweaked the curve optimizer for the 5800x3d, the 3600 was done for!! It can't compete when it doesn't even compare! Got on COD WZ 3 just to test as it was the only other game I rarely play, the 3600 only managed to top out the 1660ti (couldn't get past 75% usage) at 107fps at its best (70-90 avg) on ALL LOW graphics settings on 1080p, windows 11/registry/bios tweaks and overclocked gfx card. Playable but the 1% lows (15fps. ugh) were killing me like the 9 year old outgunning me when the fps drops sooooo low in fights, I. LOSE. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. (these young players is something else tho, maybe something in the water they're drinking). I can't even talk smack back because I get my cheeks clapped. To top it off, it sssssstutter. Yeah. Nah. Haven't played since then till after I upgraded to the 5800x3d. The 5800x3d with all the tweaks and over/underclocks, averaging 110-140 fps with 50-65 1% lows. Of course in battle royal. I didn't even care for any of those numbers, the game felt smooth with no sssstutter, NOW I win my fights, hits register, IM CLAPPING back. THIS is what the 1660ti capable of when the usage is 95+%. Thanks to the 5800x3d. If you're on the fence, just get it.
