  • So far everything is going well!
I've had this alternator in my truck for about a week or so now and it's been working just great. Alternators are the sort of things that tend to be good up until they have a failure, so I can't quite speak to the longevity of the part, but the castings and such all seemed really good. Oh, a note for people installing these in GMC vehicles after 2007. Measuring the voltage at first threw me because it was putting out 15v. I found out that the ECM in GM vehicles has some smart battery charging and that it will charge at 15v depending on certain conditions, such as your battery being really low voltage and also when it is very cold out. It's the winter when I write this review. This is to compensate for the charging characteristics of lead acid batteries and, at the temperature the vehicle was at when I measured, this voltage was the correct charge voltage. So yes, everything seems good and my truck is charging like it should. The voltage is nice and stable and measuring with an oscilloscope showed a smooth waveform. I hope it lasts, but since I did the swap myself I have the original alternator and plan to rebuild it to have on hand. (You can buy kit's for fairly cheap, though I bought the new alt because I wasn't sure if it was diode failure or regulator failure on my old alt.) ... show more
